I know some you out there have kids. And some of you are actually published and you have kids! So what I want to know is how do you do it? How do you write with kids? Do you wait till they go to bed? Does your SO help you so you can get some writing time? Do you wake up insanely early? What?
I also left this topic WIDE open so we can post about our kids too!

I usually write while they're up. I'm horrible for that I'm sure. Otherwise I wait until bed time or get up WAY early. The big kid is old enough to entertain himself and I usually put the baby next to me to cuddle or sit with me. I also set really small goals for the day. Like 500 words at the most. I use notebooks for handwriting. I do a sprint then get up to play/do a chore, and sometimes I just tell the big kid that I'm taking a "time out" while the baby is sleeping so that I can do some work otherwise I'm going to be grumpy. Because I get really grumpy when I can't write. It makes me insane. Which might explain why I've been so crabby lately.... :/ The big thing is, it might not be how your muse WANTS to work, but you have to make it work for you. Or it won't get done.

What I did before my current slump was write when he went to bed. I've since upped my responsibility load with my church and around the house, plus I've started personal training and have met numerous times with the guy after the child was asleep, that I am exhausted and just want sleep by the time I can sit down to write. I'll be tweaking this soon... very soon. Plus... a kid with croup is no fun! And potty training... can't forget the potty training.

I have a nearly 11 year old (she turns 11 on the 20th) and a 9 year old. So, I have it easy. Especially during NaNoWriMo. They go to bed early-ish and are at school most of the day

Oh Lis, you are having a tough time with your kiddo! Hope he gets better soon! Honestly, I hope he gets the potty training thing down soon! The croup I can handle. Cleaning up his messes because he can't make it to the bathroom in time... I can only handle that so many times in one day! LOL

Good luck. Mine didn't get it until he was 4. -_- He's got the concept down, it's just his timing. Of course, it doesn't help he's got a problem that makes timing a bit of an issue. He tried though and I told him I was really proud that he tried even though he didn't quite make it in time. The biggest problem we have with him is when he is outdoors. He wants to stay outside and play so he ignores the signs of it's time to go potty.

Mine STILL does that and he's 4! How far is your potty from where he normally plays? Our potty was in the front room because the bathroom was on the far side of the house. Yeah, it's a little strange to explain to people who don't have kids and come over, but come on! You clean the potty chair every time, right? LOL!

Lis, we had a "potty watch" and made him go every hour on the dot. then he didn't have to wait until he felt the urge because they usually don't feel it until RIGHT before they go when they're that young.

Yeah, that also helps! That's how our daycare provider trained....they had to go at all the normal "potty times" (before going outside, before lunch, before nap, etc.) and then every hour too!

Yeah, I have to implement the "hour potty time" thing. It's just hard when I'm constantly running around like a maniac and have a hard enough time making sure everyone eats on time.

Why do kids always get sick the night before something? The boy had been signed up for a class through the rec center that started today and last night at 11:15p he pukes! I didn't dare send him today because I didn't know if it was a true stomach bug or if something just upset his tummy. He's obviously better now. He's kept everything down and is singing along with songs on his "laptop." Surprisingly though, the little one slept through all the screaming of the boy puking all over his digger sheets. And she stayed in her crib until 3a! YAY!!!!!!
