I'm from the midwest, Iowa actually, and there are a few things you need to know if you're writing from someone from the midwest.
1. We are not all farms. Actually there are many cities here. Huge ones in fact. With lots of pavement and crime and everything.
2. Some of us do live on farms, but we're not all rednecks or backwards. In fact, Iowa is a liberal state and was one of the first states that allowed gay marriage. Many of our cities and farmers vote democrat in most elections for one reason or another.
3. Iowa PRIDES itself on education. It's constantly ranked one of the highest for high school education and we boast 3 public colleges that are all at the top of their game in various fields. Engineering is a major one for Iowa State and most of our graduates there have jobs long before they even finish school from all over the globe.
4. Most of us are religious - Christian - lots of churches and prayers before public events.
5. We are friendly. Ridiculously so. WE'll wave at strangers who pass us on the highway and help people to their cars with smiles on our faces.
6. We call soda, pop, for the most part. We brag about loose meat hamburger sandwiches that we call Maid Rites and every single town has a local coffee shop that we brag on that ISN'T starbucks. My town is Smokey Row. The town I grew up in is Cuppa Keyboard. The big town nearby is The Coffee Vine.
7. We love meat and potatoes and fresh seafood isn't ever available. We love our guns, our Jesus, and a lot of goo eating. But we're also savvy and super political since we are the first stop in the primaries. WE know world politics and we're up to date on what's going on.
8. Every single town has a gas station that people hang out in and discuss world events, pop culture, and local politics. EVERY. TOWN.
