Ok, so I am creating this thread for those of us with animals. Whether you have a pet cat, dog, fish, bird, chicken, rabbit, or whatever, come and chat! Share what's up with your critter pals. As many of you know, I have chickens and am busy trying to get my incubator to work properly and get something to hatch out of it. It's not looking good right now. This is the second batch of eggs I've popped in there and I'm already on Day 24 going into 25 with nothing happening. For those who don't know, chicken eggs should hatch around day 21. My fluff balls are late and, sadly, I think no longer alive. I'm giving it until tomorrow afternoon, I think, before I remove the old eggs, clean the incubator, test run it for a couple of days, and try again using what's called the "dry hatch" method. I've got some other maintenance to do to the incubator to improve my chances of success, but from what I've read the incubator I have is known as being the most temperamental out there. You know, why would I be provided with a simple "set and forget" machine? LOL Aside from my chickens, I've got Bruce the cat (pictured in my icon), Sweetie the coon hound (who is usually a lump on the couch), and once hubby gets home this evening, three rabbits. Who knows what else will be added to our little family farm in the coming months!

I didn't read this post until I saw the pictures of the "breeding rabbits" on FB, lisbet. Oh my! You DO have a farm! And I thought my house was bad. We have 3 siberian huskies and 1 labrador. At feeding times, it seriously sounds like a zoo! I'm surprised they don't wake the whole neighborhood up!

I've got one dog and then my parents' dog that visits sometimes. Sadly, I'll be leaving my dog, Ella behind with my parents when I move to California. I can't bear to separate her from their dog!

I have a tiny farmette on my little plot of land. I live in the city and we're allowed to have chickens but no rooster. We just got some quail last month and they are small. There is a male in there but he doesn't call very loud. No louder than the local birds.
We have 7 chickens, one being broody. So we took advantage of that and are trying to hatch some Tolbunt Polish chickens. We started with 6 eggs and are down to 3. Should know in two weeks if we'll get chicks or not.
Between my roomie and I, we have five cats, 1 dog (soon to be 3), two horses and two minis.

I have a cockatiel named Tykie. He might be somewhat brain damaged because his breeders were idiots, but he's my boy. He's kind of neurotic, loves being around people, but is also afraid of hands for some reason. He has a long-running vendetta against screenprinted t-shirts, computer keyboards, and video game controllers. Also, he can whistle the first part of the Imperial March. Teaching him that is my greatest accomplishment in life.

I suspect the guy we got them from sold us sick bunnies. But Cookie is still alive and kicking! She's doing very well and apparently is a picky little bunny. She will NOT eat her pellets, but will happily munch on grass and alfalfa hay. Silly bunny.

Video of the Imperial March whistling? Maybe. He doesn't do it on cue, unfortunately. He can be kind of stubborn. He does seem to show off for my niece, though, so maybe next time she comes over I'll be able to get it on camrea. He also does this thing where he repeats his name over and over really quickly while bobbing his head. He then finishes it up with "-bird!" (We often call him Tykie-bird, so he knows how to say that.)

My family has an overweight senior cat named Oreo -- she's a tuxedo cat with a mustache mark on her nose, which almost got her the name "Charlie" after Charlie Chaplin, but my siblings and I insisted on her being an Oreo.
My fiance has a lazy and possibly senile senior black cat named Tabitha (Tabby for short) who is a lapcat and likes sitting on my lap when i'm typing.
Fiance's sisters have a black cat with a white spot on his chest named Polaris (who is locked into one of his sister's rooms 24/7 because he likes picking fights), Smoky a medium-hair grey cat who whenever I go into the kitchen will meow insistently until I give her a piece of ice from the ice machine to chase, and Salem a black medium-hair little scaredy cat who likes sitting on the cat post and looking out the window.

So, my zoo is expanding. On top of the 5 hens, 1 rooster, 1 bunny, 1 coon hound, and 1 cat I have added: 3 new bunnies (2 Californian and 1 New Zealand), 7 hens (2 Rhode Island Reds, 3 Barred Rocks, and 2 unknowns that I'm researching), and a new rooster (breed unknown, I'm researching).
I swear, hubby has the worst timing to add critters. We're having a heat wave today and we just got all these new guys yesterday. Gosh... he really likes to make things difficult for me! lol

We now have a dog. I'm unsure about this, too soon to tell, but then again I was never originally a dog person. I don't hate them, I just prefer cats.
He's still a pup, name is Alpha, although it was a fun fight telling girl from boy since they got so confused (although I knew from the start. Let's see where this goes.
